Exotic Car Racing in Las Vegas – Living the Dream

If you are a man, chances are you had a poster of a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Porsche hanging on the wall of your bedroom when you were a kid. I definitely did.

A Yellow Lamborghini Gallardo

Like most kids I used to dream about driving all of those cars; screaming down the highway at 200 mph like it was nothing. In middle school I would buy every new issue of the duPont Registry and circle the cars that I was certain I would be able to purchase as soon as I got my drivers license. Here I am 30 years old, and I drive a Mazda. It is a fine machine that gets me to work, but somehow it’s just not what I imagined I would be driving.

On December 8th, I did get to live out a little bit of my supercar dreams though. I was lucky enough to be invited to go to Exotics Racing at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and drive a Lamborghini Gallardo. For real.

Our blogger group arrived at the speedway early in the morning, and we were each assigned a car to drive. I got the Lamborghini Gallardo, like I mentioned already, but other people in my group got to drive a Ferrari, and Audi, and a Porsche. You can check out all of the different cars that are available on the Exotics Racing website. All of the cars are unbelievably fast, and there is no bad choice in the group.

After we found out what cars we would be driving, we were put through a short (~15 minute) safety lecture, then we got to go on a ride along to learn the track. That’s it. That is the extent of training and preparation you are required to go through before you get to drive a $250,000 car that can go 200 mph. I think we all would have gladly accepted a bit more training, but before I knew it I had on a helmet and I was sitting in the driver’s seat of the Lamborghini.

The video below depicts the entire driving experience. There is a camera on me and a camera on the track at all times.

If you watch the video, you can see that I was fairly nervous at the beginning, but I got more and more comfortable with each lap. I topped out at about 120 mph on the straight away, a speed that I don’t think is conveyed well by the video. When you are in that car with the pedal to the floor it is unlike any normal car. That thing is instantly responsive and you know you’re going fast, but you feel totally in control the entire time. You really have to drive one of these insane cars to know how powerful they truly are.

This is the exotic car that I drove.

If you find yourself in Las Vegas looking for a memorable experience, you really can’t beat racing an exotic car. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but if you won a bunch of money at the blackjack table this would be a great way to spend it.

Read more about Exotics Racing from the people who were there to share the experience with me.

Which exotic car would you want to race? Let us know in the comments!
